Pre-Bariatric Evaluation
Preparing for bariatric surgery is a major life decision, and being emotionally and mentally prepared can be just as important as being physically ready.
At Challenges Conquered Counseling, we provide pre-bariatric psychological evaluations for individuals preparing for weight-loss surgery. Our evaluations are designed to assess psychological readiness, identify potential barriers to long-term success, and provide your bariatric treatment team with the documentation needed to support your surgical process.
If any of the following sounds familiar, a pre-bariatric psychological evaluation may be the next step for you:
- Your bariatric surgeon or weight-loss program requires a psychological evaluation before surgery
- You are preparing for gastric sleeve, gastric bypass, or another bariatric procedure
- You need psychological clearance as part of your pre-surgical requirements
- You want to better understand the emotional and behavioral changes that can occur after weight-loss surgery
- You need documentation or a report provided to your bariatric surgeon or treatment team
HOW PRE-BARIATRIC PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATIONS WORK
Your evaluation includes a clinical interview focused on your mental health history, eating and lifestyle behaviors, expectations for surgery, motivation for change, coping skills, support system, and understanding of the lifestyle changes required after bariatric surgery. Standardized psychological or behavioral assessments may also be used when appropriate.
Our goal is to make the evaluation process straightforward, respectful, and supportive while providing your bariatric team with an appropriate clinical assessment of your readiness for surgery.
Evaluations may be available virtually throughout Florida or in person in Fort Lauderdale and Jacksonville. If your surgeon or bariatric program has specific forms or evaluation requirements, please provide them to us before your appointment.
