Trauma Therapy in Broward County

Trauma is not only what happened. It is what your mind and body kept doing afterward to keep you safe, long after the danger passed. That is why people describe being jumpy for no reason, going numb, avoiding whole parts of their own life, or feeling fine for months and then flattened by something small. Trauma therapy at Challenges Conquered Counseling helps Broward County clients understand those responses and slowly turn them down.

We work with adults and adolescents across Broward, from Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach to Coral Springs, Plantation, Davie, and Hollywood. Some clients are dealing with one clear event: an accident, an assault, a death, a frightening medical experience. Others grew up in a home where things were never predictable, and there is no single incident to point to. Both are trauma, and both respond to treatment.

Therapy begins with stabilization, not with the story. Before anything else, we make sure you have practical ways to manage the moments when your nervous system spikes: grounding, breathing, and knowing your own early warning signs. Only when that footing is solid do we begin working with the harder material, and only at a pace you set.

From there, the approach depends on you. That may include EMDR, cognitive processing work that targets the beliefs trauma left behind, or body-aware approaches for symptoms that show up physically. What we will not do is push you to relive something before you are ready. Feeling worse for weeks on end is not a sign therapy is working.

The goal is not to erase what happened. It is to get to a place where the memory is part of your history instead of something that hijacks your Tuesday, and where you can sleep, be present with people, and make decisions out of choice rather than fear.

We see clients at 800 E Cypress Creek Rd, Suite 431 in Fort Lauderdale and offer secure telehealth across Florida for anyone who would rather do this work from home. We accept many major insurance plans and verify benefits before the first session.

If you have been carrying this alone, you do not have to keep doing that. Request an appointment or call (954) 600-9403.
