Trauma Therapy in Florida
Trauma is not only what happened. It is what your nervous system learned from what happened, and how long it keeps acting on that lesson. That is why people can be years past an event and still flinch at a sound, avoid a road, sleep badly, or go numb in the middle of an ordinary Tuesday. Challenges Conquered Counseling provides trauma therapy throughout Florida, at our Fort Lauderdale and Jacksonville offices and through secure video.
We work with people after car accidents, assault, abuse, medical events, violence, sudden loss, natural disasters, combat and first responder experience, and the kind of long running childhood environment that never had a single dramatic moment but shaped everything anyway. That last one counts. You do not need a headline event to qualify for help.
Trauma therapy at our practice starts with stability, not with the story. Your therapist will spend the early sessions on the present, on sleep, on safety, and on ways to bring yourself back when something sets you off, before anything gets processed. When you are ready, the approach is matched to you. That may be EMDR, cognitive processing work, body focused approaches that pay attention to what your system is doing, or some combination. You control the pace throughout, and you can slow down or stop at any point. A therapist who pushes you past what you can handle is not doing trauma work correctly.
Sessions run about fifty minutes. Some people come for a focused stretch and finish. Others work in chapters over a longer period, with breaks in between. Both are normal.
Our Fort Lauderdale office is at 800 E Cypress Creek Rd Suite 431 and our Jacksonville office is at 10163 Fortune Pkwy G40. Telehealth is available anywhere in Florida, and for some clients doing this work from their own home, in their own chair, is the safer place to start.
We accept many major insurance plans and will verify your coverage before your first session so cost is not one more thing to worry about.
If you have been managing around something for a long time, you are allowed to put it down. Call Challenges Conquered Counseling at (954) 600-9403 to talk with someone about where to start.
