Couples Therapy in Florida
Couples therapy at Challenges Conquered Counseling is a series of sessions where both partners meet with one therapist to change a repeating pattern, such as the same fight or the same silence. We see couples in Fort Lauderdale and Jacksonville, and by secure video anywhere in Florida.
Two people, one pattern
Most couples who call us are not fighting about the dishes. They are having the same argument in different costumes, about money, about the in-laws, about who noticed what, and it ends the same way every time. The topic changes. The loop does not.
A couple is a system, and the loop is something the two of you build together. That is why one partner cannot fix it alone, and why blaming the other person, or yourself, rarely moves anything. Couples therapy treats the pattern as the problem, not either of you.
What happens in a session
Your therapist sits with both of you and watches how the conversation actually goes, which is something neither of you can see from inside it. Where does it speed up? Who goes quiet? What sentence is usually the one that turns a discussion into a fight?
From there the work is concrete. You practice slowing down at the moment things escalate. You learn to say the real thing instead of the sharp thing. You learn to repair after a fight rather than pretend it did not happen. Most sessions end with something small to try at home before the next one, because the change has to happen in your kitchen, not just in the office.
We do not take sides and we do not referee. Both partners get heard, and both get asked to do something differently.
Reasons couples come in
Some come for communication that has worn thin. Some come for trust after an affair, which we treat as slower and more structured work. Others come for parenting disagreements, for the slow drift that shows up after years of being busy, or because one of them is not sure the relationship should continue. All of those are fair reasons to book. If you are married and want the longer view of what that stage looks like, see our page on marriage counseling in Florida.
One session, two cities
The statewide piece is the part people do not expect. Florida is long, and plenty of couples do not share a zip code on a Tuesday. One partner may be traveling for work, working a split schedule, or living in another city for a season. With secure video, you can each join the same session from wherever you are, and the therapist works with the two of you on the same screen.
If you would rather be in the room, our Fort Lauderdale office is at 800 E Cypress Creek Rd, Suite 431, and our Jacksonville office is at 10163 Fortune Pkwy G40. Local pages cover the details for Fort Lauderdale, Broward County and Jacksonville.
Cost and getting started
We accept many major insurance plans, and coverage for couples work can look different from coverage for individual therapy. Call before you book and we will check your benefits and tell you what to expect. Sessions usually run weekly at the start. Some couples add a few individual sessions along the way when one person needs a space of their own.
Waiting until it feels unbearable makes the work harder, not easier. When you are ready, call (954) 600-9403 or request an appointment, and we will find a therapist and a time that fits both calendars.
Frequently asked questions
Can we do couples therapy if we live in different cities?
Yes. Each partner can join the same secure video session from a different location anywhere in Florida. Some couples do every session this way, and others mix video with in-person visits to our Fort Lauderdale or Jacksonville office when they are in the same place.
Does couples therapy mean we are close to divorce?
No. Many couples come in because they feel stuck, distant, or tired of repeating the same fight, and the relationship is still intact. Coming early usually gives you more options. Coming late is still fine, and your therapist can help you decide what you want.
How often will we meet?
Most couples start weekly so the work has momentum, then space sessions out as things steady. Your therapist will talk through a rhythm with you in the first few visits and adjust it as you go. If travel or a busy season makes weekly hard, tell us and we can look at video for some visits.
What if only one of us wants to come?
Call anyway and say so. A first appointment can be framed as one conversation with no commitment, which often lowers the pressure on the reluctant partner. Your therapist will not force a decision or take a side. Many couples start this way, and the second partner often joins after a first visit.
Will insurance cover couples therapy?
We accept many major insurance plans, but coverage for couples sessions varies by plan. Call us before your first visit. We will check your benefits and give you a straight answer about cost before you sit down. It is also fine to ask about this on the same call where you book.
